Cinnamon Applesauce Recipe (Easy & Homemade)

Cinnamon applesauce is easy to make at home. To start, you’ll need 5 large apples. I have a variety of apples that make for a better applesauce.  I’m using 6 different kinds of apples in this applesauce recipe.

I have a couple of Honey Crisp, a Granny Smith, a Golden Delicious, a Fuji, a couple of Braeburns, and a couple of Pink Ladies.

This should make a pretty flavorful combination for applesauce. Every apple has its own taste. I don’t think so. Whether you are a beginner, there’s something magical about mixing simple ingredients and making them into cozy, real goodness. Add Sugar and Spices

  • If you want your applesauce a little sweet, add 1/4 cup of sugar. (optional)  Sprinkle in 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon, add a pinch of salt (about 1/4 teaspoon) for natural sweetness. If you add cloves, that’s your sauce will smell good.
  • I added 2 tablespoons of lemon juice, it helps the applesauce stay fresh and tasty even after storing.
  •  Stir everything and mix, then turn the heat to medium to high. After the one boil, turn out the flame to medium to low. Cover the pan and cook for 15 to 20 minutes. Check in between to see if there is still some water.
  • After 20 minutes, check a piece of apple with a knife. If it slides in easily, your apples are ready!
  • Now the boiling process is done.

Mash or blend the Cinnamon Applesauce

Now time to mash the apple and make the sauce. Take a fork or a potato masher. Get a fine and smooth sauce, and use an electric mixer.

Taste and Adjust (Optional)  Taste a bit,  if you want it sweeter. You can add sugar to applesauce if you like.

Cool and Store

Let the cinnamon applesauce cool down completely. Then store it in an air-tight container and keep it in the fridge for up to a week. You can also freeze it for later – it stays for up to 2 months

  • Healthy option for babies and perfect for lunchboxes too
  • Enjoy it cold or warm, straight from the jar

Expert Tips for the Best Cinnamon Applesauce

  • I like to add a bit of lemon juice — it keeps the applesauce fresh.
  • Try mixing different apples. I like using one sweet and one a bit tart—it balances the flavor naturally without needing much sugar.
  • Let the apples cook first before adding sugar — they might be sweet enough without it.
  • Peel the apples for a smoother sauce. If you don’t mind some texture and want more fiber, keep the skin on.
When the apples are completely boiled, mash them with a fork for a chunky feel, or use a blender if you want it super smooth texture.
  • And one last thing, let it cool completely before storing. That way, no extra steam sneaks into your container.
